SEO for landscapers

Rank for the patio job, not just the weekly mow.

Many maintenance clients find you by word of mouth. The design and install jobs, pavers, irrigation, drought-tolerant yards, start with a search and a scroll through photos. Landscaping SEO is being the company those photos belong to.

The real problem

Why don’t landscapers get design jobs from Google?

Your best work lives in your phone’s camera roll, where Google cannot see it.

Landscaping is one of the most visual trades, and many landscaper websites show a few stock photos and a list of services. The homeowner planning a backyard redo wants to see your yards, sorted by the kind of job they are planning, before they ask for a quote.

The searches split two ways. Maintenance is "gardener near me", decided in the map pack by distance and reviews. Projects are "paver patio", "drip irrigation installation" or "drought tolerant landscaping", decided by who has a real page and real photos for that job. Many landscapers compete for the first and leave the second open.

Projects also come with trust questions a page can answer: are you licensed for this, who does the hardscape, what happens if the irrigation fails. In California, jobs of $1,000 or more, or any that need a building permit, need a contractor’s license, and C-27 is the landscaping one. Saying so plainly wins the careful customer.

Two kinds of searches

Maintenance comes from the map pack. Projects come from pages.

A typical landscaper site

  • A services list: mowing, cleanups, design, irrigation
  • Stock photos of lawns that are not yours
  • One contact form for every kind of job
  • Ranks for the company name only

A site that sells the projects

  • A page per project type with your own before and after
  • A gallery sorted the way homeowners plan
  • Separate paths for maintenance and design quotes
  • License, crew and warranty stated plainly

What does SEO for landscapers include?

Built around the jobs that make your year, not just the route.

01

Google Business Profile

Category, services and service area set up for the map pack, with fresh project photos posted through the season.

02

Review engine

An ask when a project is finished and looks its best. Reviews that mention "patio" or "irrigation" help the next homeowner decide.

03

Project pages

Hardscape, pavers, irrigation, drought-tolerant design, lighting. One page per project type, each with your own work.

04

A gallery that sells

Before and after sets from your phone, sorted by project type, so a homeowner sees the job they are planning.

05

Service-area pages

Honest pages for the towns you cover. Three real ones beat a dozen thin copies.

06

Spanish for crews and clients

When your customers or your team speak Spanish, real Spanish pages, written in Spanish rather than machine-translated.

Rules a California landscaper’s marketing should follow

Where licensing meets marketing. Each one links to the source.

  1. 01

    The license line is $1,000

California exempts only minor work: jobs under $1,000 in total that need no building permit. Design and install projects are usually over it, and the exemption never covers someone who advertises as a contractor.

  2. 02

    C-27 is the landscaping license

Landscaping contractors are licensed under C-27. A homeowner comparing quotes for a patio or irrigation job will look for it.

  3. 03

    License number in all advertising

Licensed contractors must include their license number in all forms of advertising, and CSLB’s definition of advertising includes electronic transmissions and directories.

Landscapers can run Local Services Ads
